Skaters thank the NHS

On World Mental Health day we say ‘Thank You’ to the NHS creating this short video and raising funds through a Just Giving page.

These challenging, unusual and unprecedented times have made us all recognise, if we didn’t already know, the value of the NHS. Matthew Davey has been a Youth & Community worker for over twenty years, working in the pockets of deprivation in the Hastings & Rother area of East Sussex. He has dedicated his work to improving the lives, increasing the aspirations and making a difference to those I have encountered.

Matt has been skateboarding since 1988 and had the mis-fortune of having mental health issues in the 1990’s and suffering many physical injuries through skating. The NHS rebuilt him, both physically and more importantly mentally. Matt said “It’s without any exaggeration when I say that without the NHS I would not be here today, twenty years on from the care, skill and professionalism of the dedicated staff who empowered, supported and allowed me to recover”.

The event and this video are an attempt to say thank you from skaters to the NHS, to raise money for important health charities and to show the diversity which exists within skateboarding.

Thank you to everyone who came out and made it happen.
